Gaining weight is a two step process. I’m assuming that you want to gain the good kind of weight – muscle, not fat in which case you have to eat more and lift weights or engage in some sort of strength training routine.

The most important rule to remember if you want to gain weight is to eat more calories than you burn. Only by doing this can your body use the excess energy to build muscle. If you eat less than you burn, there is no way to gain weight, it’s as simple as that. Your first step is to figure out how many calories your body burns per day. Use this calculator http://calorieneedscalculator.com to get an estimate. Now eat more than you burn and you’re on your way to gaining muscle.

Gaining weight is as simple as eat more than you burn but if you want to gain muscle, you also need to exercise. If you just ate more without lifting weights, you’d just gain fat and become unhealthy and overweight. When you lift weights (or participate in any strength training) you’re actually causing some damage to your muscles.

When you rest, your body uses those extra calories to repair and rebuild the muscles. When this process is complete, the muscle is stronger and a bit bigger than it was before. You obviously won’t notice a difference right away, but over time you will find yourself becoming stronger and bigger.

You need to keep your diet clean to gain the right kind of weight. Stay away from sugary and simple carb foods such as candy, foods made with white flour, soda and other junk. These foods will promote fat storage, something you don’t need. Stick to foods made from whole wheat flour, oats, brown rice, lean sources of protein (chicken, some cuts of beef, fish), nuts, beans, legumes and protein shakes – yum yum. Hope you have lots of roids, cash to spend on nutrition, and lots of time to sleep.

I want to start and make a Bodybuilding exercise routine but I don’t know what exercise to do each day or how many because they say you need to change up your routine so your muscles wont get used to the same routine and si it can be more fun. Can somebody help ke please!!!!!

Hi Jose, the one thing you definitely don’t want to do is over train your muscles. I’d recommend working out each muscle group no more than twice a week. This will prevent muscle damage and allow sufficient time for your muscles to heal and grow.

Here is a sample routine you can implement

Day 1 – Chest & Cardio
Day 2 – Biceps and Back
Day 3 – Cardio and Abs
Day 4 – Triceps and forearms
Day 5 – Traps and Shoulders
Day 6 – Legs, Abs and cardio
Day 7 – Rest

This is the basic routine I personally use with very good results. What I do to mix up my routine is have an arsenal of different exercises that I can perform for each muscle group, that way each week I pick 3 out at random for each muscle group and go from there. Generally I’ll do 3 sets of 8-10 reps for each exercise with a 2 minute break between sets.

For example, Day 1 – Chest. I will do something like:

Flat Bench press (3 sets of 8-10 reps)
Flat Bench dumbell flys (3 sets of 8-10 reps) &
Incline Bench press (3 sets of 8-10 reps)

And that’s it. That workout is done. There is no need to do any more than 3 different exercises per muscle group. More exercises might damage your muscle and any less won’t be stressing them enough.

I hope this short guide was useful to you. :)

I’ll be going overseas in a few days for 1 month.
I have been bulking up for 3months now and I don’t want this month to stop my progress or have too much of a hindering effect on my goals.
I won’t have access to a gym or weights, it will just be me and my body. Can you guys name some good exercises that will use my own bodyweight and promote muscle growth.
The ones I can think of is:
-Pushups
-Crunches (with a book or something heavy behind my head)

THANKS!!!

Dips.

Stair push ups, with the feet up a couple stairs…

Also, with pushups, you can do 10, then 9, then 8, and so on until 1. Then work your way back up…

A great one for abs is flutter kicks. You lay on your back, straighten your legs, raise them about 6 inches off the ground. Then just alternate them raising them up to a foot or so.

For shoulders… hold your arms out parallel with the ground.
1. Pancakes. Just flip your palms while keeping your arms straight.
2. Circles. Start in small circles, then go to large, then back to small.
3. Over head arm clap. Arms out, palms up, then clap a bit.

At some point you’ll figure out what you like, then come up with some of your own. It won’t make you huge, but it will keep you in shape.

Does anyone here work in Project Management and if yes, how much do you work with people? Do you interact with people on a daily basis-face to face or mostly over the phone and emails? What about the public interaction? Do you have a high level of dealing with the public? Is it mostly office work or are you out in the feild more? I had one class in Operations Management and one week (out of the 6 weeks) we did Project Management work.

In the (major) bank I work in, it is the Operations Manager that oversees a group of people which varies from 3 to 25 depending on the level of the job(s). This manager deals a lot with people and has to take escalation calls from upset clients, etc all the time. S/he has to deal with other departments when there is a problem or to suggest a better procedure. If the Operations Manager does not have people skills, s/he will not last long.
The Project Managers where I work never deal with people on the outside unless it has to do with computer systems personnel. That is if a new computer system is being implemented, it is the Project Manager’s job to consult with the Operations Managers to see how they want things setup. Then the Project Manager goes back to the maker of the computer software and asks them to reprogram things. This going back and forth and testing the new system can take many months. You deal with people but you deal more with project issues (computer software, new tasks, etc) than you deal with people’s personalities in an Operations Manager’s job. I hope this helps.

Summarize the installation process activities in context of a Gantt Chart, prepared using Microsoft® Project, which shows specific precedence and dependencies between specific activities.

I know I’m needing to do a project on the Gantt Chart, but I don’t understand what exactly I’m supposed to do on that Gantt Chart. I just need this defined so I can know what to do. The instructor’s out of office for the weekend. Please help? Thanks.

This is what I can get from that description, hope it helps.

Show the tasks on an installation process, each task should have a certain amount of steps show the completion time of each of those steps as well as any sub steps. See the wiki for an explanation on what a Gantt Chart is as well as a sample one.

Do yoy just complete a course to be a project manager or do you also have to have expertise in some other field to get a job as a project manager?

Project management is more than one course and you have to be certified as a project manager (PMP certification) to get a job as a PM.

I am a Commerce graduate who got into film-making (Photography) after Graduation purely out of Interest.. I did a two yr course to understand the basics of Film-making and Photography.. After my course i ve been assisting Film-makers and Cinematographers in different projects for 2 yrs now.. I am not getting used to the life style, Inconsistent & non-paying-career prospects and lack of opportunities to make Independent projects.. I am now thinking of doing my long-due-MBA and get into an MN C .. As i’ve specialized in Marketing during my Undergraduate days .. I am now interested in subjects like Brand Management, Marketing Strategy Building, Integrated Marketing Communications or an MBA where i can specialize in Marketing ..

How would Business schools Validate my application since i am making a career shift ? Even if Business schools see me as a Non-traditional Student, How much would MN C’s Consider my CV if i apply for a job after my MBA program considering the fact that i’ve been freelancing for 2 yrs n have no professional work experience ? Business schools in UK, USA and Canada ask for 2-3yrs of Managerial Work experience.. How do i go about getting an admission for the general MBA program ? Please Advice ??
Thanks for all your valuable contributions friends .. Well my score are as follows ..
10 Std : 73% [2000]
12 Std : 88% ( Commerce & Accountancy ) [2002]
B.COM : 58% :( [2002-2005] ( Low scores due to diverse interests n lot of participation in Extra curricular activities .. I also wanted to appear for a re-test n score better, but since my college is semester basis .. Couldn’t do much )
Diploma in Film Making ( Certificate Course, So no mark system ) [ 2005-2007 ]
I ve also made a few short films which has won a few awards and also screened in the Berlin International Film Festival ..

@ Biker : I’ve also been reading about a lot about Non-Traditional Students in B-Schools .. Can i apply with this 2 years of Non-traditional work experience cause in a way i ve been assisting Cinematographers for the last two yrs .. Which is a bit of a supervising job .. Will that count as Non-traditional work experience ? I’ve also read about Ex-Army officials making it into B-schools ..
Can anyone suggest me some good universities for an MBA in London, Dubai, Canada and Singapore, which would suit my profile .. I want to pursue an MBA from a familiar University rather than an unrecognized one .. Pls feel free to give any kind of related information ? I am sure it’ll help me a lot .. Thanks in Advance ..

MBA entrance into the top ranking B-schools in India is based more on the tests (CAT, MAT etc) than on your CV. For abroad, MBA admission is based more on GRE/GMAT. After clearing the test, if you get through Group Discussion well, then your work experience will add value in the interview. Your job switches won’t matter much. You have a background with which you will be able to impress upon the interviewers that you are confident, experienced and mature.

You will get a job based on your performance in MBA+previous education + previous experience. It’s a combination of all these. I would say that you must not worry about placements now but focus on the preparation for the MBA entrance test.
